The musician, who was a member of the E Street Band in 1974, contributed to the albums ‘The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle’ and ‘Born to Run.’
Tzruya “Suki” Lahav has died at the age of 74. She was a violinist and vocalist for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band during a pivotal period in 1974.
Lahav’s tenure was brief but left a permanent mark on Springsteen’s early catalog. She played the violin solo on the epic album closer “Jungleland” from 1975’s ‘Born to Run.’ Her contributions also appear on the 1973 album ‘The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle,’ where she sang the choir like background vocals on the classic “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy).”
Her time in the band reflected a specific moment in Springsteen’s development, as his songwriting expanded to incorporate more orchestral elements. After leaving the E Street Band, Lahav pursued a solo career and later worked as a journalist in Israel.
Her playing on “Jungleland” remains one of the track’s most defining features, a concise and emotive statement woven into one of rock’s most ambitious narratives.
