yeule Announces New EP a+e, Shares First Single “Hystérique”

yeule has announced a new EP, a+e, out December 4 via Warner Records. It follows last year’s Evangelic Girl Is A Gun, and arrives with a lead single, “Hystérique,” that sits somewhere between distorted synthpop and open-hearted melody.

The EP is described as “a post-apocalyptic cyborgian romance.” That framing fits an artist whose catalog treats the artificial and the emotional as related rather than opposed. Earlier this year, the Singapore-born musician took that instinct into another form entirely, covering Nancy Sinatra for a performance art film in which they rolled around in paint.

“Hystérique” was written and produced by yeule with Chris Greatti and Devin Workman, whose credits include work with Yungblud and Dominic Fike respectively. The song moves yeule nearer to straight pop than before, though it stays well clear of anything resembling a mainstream single. The distortion and the treatment of the vocal aren’t concessions to radio; they carry the song’s weight.

The five-track EP also includes “Click,” “Fake Plastic,” “Tatu” and “Lovepill.”

For an artist often discussed in terms of world-building and persona, a short release framed explicitly as a romance is a narrower, more deliberate move than another full-length statement. What’s notable is the contrast at its center: yeule’s collaborators here are more conventional than the artist they’re working for, and “Hystérique” keeps that tension audible rather than smoothing it out.
