Chappell Roan Addresses São Paulo Security Incident, Distances Team from Allegations

The pop artist has responded to claims made by footballer Jorginho regarding an interaction with his daughter, clarifying the security personnel involved were not part of her touring team.

Chappell Roan has publicly addressed an incident involving security personnel and the daughter of Brazilian footballer Jorginho at a São Paulo hotel, stating the officer in question was not a member of her personal team. The clarification comes after Jorginho, who plays for Arsenal and the Brazilian national team, used social media to accuse a security guard of speaking aggressively to his 11-year-old daughter as she attempted to approach the singer for a photograph.

In a statement posted to her Instagram stories, Roan wrote, “I do not hate children.” She continued, “The security that was posted at the hotel elevator was not part of my team. I am so sorry that happened to her.” The pop artist, currently on tour in South America, emphasized that her own security detail would not have handled the situation in such a manner.

The incident highlights the complex and often opaque layers of security surrounding touring artists, especially in international venues. While an artist’s core team travels with them, local security provided by promoters, hotels, or venues is frequently employed for perimeter control. This can lead to discrepancies in protocol and conduct, with the artist’s reputation becoming linked to personnel over whom they have little direct oversight.

Jorginho’s initial post, written in Portuguese, described his daughter as being “super excited” to see Roan before a guard allegedly told her, “She doesn’t like children, she won’t take a picture, go away.” The footballer expressed his disappointment, framing the event as a lesson for his daughter about the behavior of some public figures. Roan’s response seeks to correct the record on both the personnel and the implied personal slight.

For Roan, whose rapid rise has been built on a deeply connective, theatrical pop persona and a fervent fanbase, the public relations challenge is twofold. It involves managing a narrative that conflicts with her cultivated image of inclusivity while also navigating the logistical realities of a major tour. The episode serves as a minor but pointed reminder of how quickly off-stage interactions can escalate into public discourse, requiring swift and clear communication to separate an artist’s personal stance from the actions of ancillary staff.

The singer did not elaborate on whether she would seek further details from local organizers regarding the guard’s conduct. The focus of her statement remained on apologizing to the child and distancing her own team from the alleged actions.
