Billy Corgan Joins Sombr Onstage at Coachella for “1979”

The Smashing Pumpkins frontman made a surprise appearance during the Spanish artist’s set, performing the 1995 single.

Billy Corgan performed at Coachella for the first time this weekend, though not with his own band. The Smashing Pumpkins frontman was a surprise guest during Spanish indie pop artist Sombr’s set on Saturday.

Together they performed the Pumpkins’ 1995 single “1979,” a track currently experiencing a notable resurgence on TikTok. The moment faced a brief technical delay with Corgan’s microphone before the duet proceeded.

Sombr’s set also featured the live debut of a new single titled “Potential,” which is scheduled for release on April 17. The artist has recently built a pattern of collaborating with iconic 90s alternative figures, having previously shared a stage with members of the Cranberries.
