The UK artist discusses her admiration for Imogen Heap and addresses a direct request for production tips, while admitting a desire for Heap’s signature musical gloves.
In a recent interview, PinkPantheress addressed a direct question from one of her key inspirations, Imogen Heap. Heap had asked the younger artist for production tips, a request PinkPantheress found amusing. “She’s asking me what tricks I have,” PinkPantheress noted, “as if she’s asking me. I have no tricks that she doesn’t know about.”
The exchange highlights PinkPantheress’s long stated admiration for Heap’s pioneering work. This influence extends to a specific piece of technology, the Mi.Mu gloves. Developed by Heap and her team, the gloves are a wearable controller that translates hand gestures into sound.
Despite her previous advocacy for affordable and accessible production methods, like using a computer keyboard as a MIDI controller, PinkPantheress conceded a desire for the gloves. The admission points to a specific artistic aspiration within her generally DIY approach, connecting her modern process to a legacy of musical innovation.
