JPEGMAFIA Announces ‘EXPERIMENTAL RAP’ Album, Tour with redveil

The new LP arrives May 29 via AWAL, with a fall tour following this year.

JPEGMAFIA has confirmed a new album, “EXPERIMENTAL RAP,” set for May 29 on AWAL Recordings. The first single, “babygirl,” is out now with a video directed by Logan Fields and JPEGMAFIA. The track pushes a crooked vocal sample against a wall of metal guitar, a sound that fits his recent live energy.

A fall tour was announced in the same move, with redveil and matt proxy on the bill. The schedule touches both coasts, including Terminal 5 in New York on October 17 and a night at Brooklyn Paramount on October 18. Tickets open to the public on Wednesday, May 6 at 10 AM local time.

JPEGMAFIA has spent years pulling apart the edges of hip-hop, threading noise and hardcore through his production. “EXPERIMENTAL RAP” reads like a statement of intent, or maybe a shrug at the whole idea of genre. Either way, the album arrives with a clarity that previous teasers only hinted at.
