The singer underwent an unplanned procedure in Portugal and is now recuperating, according to a statement from her team.

Bonnie Tyler is recovering from emergency intestinal surgery at a hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home. A statement posted on her official website Wednesday, May 6, confirmed the procedure and said it “went well.”

The 74-year-old singer, best known for the 1983 hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” had been active on the live circuit. In March, she told Hello! magazine that she felt fit and was enjoying her shows “with my wonderful band.” Her team has not indicated when she might return to performing.

No further details about the surgery have been released. The statement noted that she is now recuperating and asked for well wishes from family, friends, and fans.
