RIP Magic Move to section1, Release “Skrewdark”

The UK group, led by Sorry’s Marco Pini, joins the Partisan sister label with a track that pulls from baggy and trip-hop. RIP Magic previously released on DFA and opened for LCD Soundsystem.

RIP Magic have signed to section1, the Partisan Records offshoot. The news arrives alongside the release of “Skrewdark,” their first single for the label.

The UK group, led by Marco Pini of Sorry on electronics and production, previously issued the “5words” 12″ on DFA in January. That record was produced by LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, a connection that also saw RIP Magic open for LCD Soundsystem at New York’s Knockdown Center in December.

“Skrewdark” brings ghostly orchestral stabs and dense, shifting percussion. It draws from Manchester’s early-90s baggy energy and Bristol’s trip-hop texture, evoking Massive Attack and Portishead. The track nods to Andrew Weatherall’s Sabres of Paradise territory without losing its own identity.

RIP Magic are currently touring the UK and Europe. The “Skrewdark” video and live dates are available now.
