The British singer takes on her first scripted dramatic role in a London-set film starring Isabelle Huppert.
Raye will make her scripted acting debut in Lineage, a new crime feature from director Yann Demange. The film, set in present-day London, casts the British singer alongside Isabelle Huppert, Dali Benssalah, and Adam Bessa.
The role arrives shortly after Raye released her second album, This Music May Contain Hope. She has appeared on screen before, playing herself in an episode of the Netflix series Black Rabbit, but Lineage marks a deliberate step into fiction.
Demange, known for ’71 and White Boy Rick, directs from a screenplay that follows Tariq, a young father trying to build a stable life after prison. When a plea for help pulls him back toward the city’s criminal networks, the past he wanted to leave behind returns.
Details about Raye’s character are not yet public. The casting signals an expansion beyond music, one that places her in a project with serious dramatic weight. Huppert’s presence alone suggests a film with ambition beyond a standard crime thriller.
Lineage does not have a release window yet. Raye continues to perform behind her latest record, but this move points toward a career that won’t be limited to sound alone.
