The cover, captured during a visit to SiriusXM’s studios, resurfaces a song that has been part of the band’s world since at least 2017.
MUNA stopped by SiriusXM’s New York studios this week while in town promoting their new album Dancing On The Wall. For their SiriusXMU session, the trio, backed by drummer Sarab Singh, performed a cover of Go West’s 1990 single “The King of Wishful Thinking.” A video snippet of the performance is circulating on social media. The full track is available only to subscribers through the SiriusXM app.
The song, originally from the Pretty Woman soundtrack, fits MUNA’s continued exploration of the gilded adult-pop sounds that defined late-’80s and early-’90s VH1. The band has regularly engaged with that era’s aesthetics. This particular song holds longer roots. It appeared on the band’s pre-show playlist as far back as 2017, making the choice feel less like a one-off nod and more like a return to a familiar reference point.
The cover lands at a moment when Dancing On The Wall is drawing attention for its polished, emotionally direct songwriting. MUNA’s take on “The King of Wishful Thinking” underlines the lineage that runs from the glossy studio pop of Go West to the band’s own carefully constructed sound
