Rico Nasty Called Dinosaurs a Government Scheme. It Was Ragebait.

The rapper’s appearance on the Zach Sang Show set off a viral backlash, followed by a quick admission that the whole thing was performance.

Rico Nasty has a new single out, “Rituals,” but a different kind of performance took over the conversation this week. During an appearance on the Zach Sang Show, the rapper claimed dinosaurs are a “government marketing scheme,” pointing to a new Netflix documentary as the source of her doubt.

She questioned how scientists could dig up a Tyrannosaurus rex from “billions” of years ago. Dinosaurs went extinct around 66 million years ago, but she used the word “billions” 13 times. She wondered about the naming process, why there are no ancient pyramid depictions of dinosaurs, and pointed to the massive profits from franchises like Jurassic Park. “There’s nothing that could make you hate a dinosaur,” she added, underlining its marketability. She also said she does not believe Antarctica exists.

The clip spread fast, and the backlash was immediate. Hours later, she posted a TikTok calling the entire rant ragebait. The admission didn’t erase the outrage, but it reframed the episode as deliberate trolling rather than genuine paleontological skepticism. The whole cycle, from provocation to viral anger to the wink-and-nod reveal, follows a well-known script. Whether anyone learns from it is another question.
