The Go-Betweens’ Beggars Banquet Albums Return to Vinyl After Decades Out of Print

The Go-Betweens’ most celebrated run of albums will finally get a proper standalone vinyl reissue. Three studio LPs originally released through Beggars Banquet — Liberty Belle and the Black Diamond Express (1986), Tallulah (1987), and 16 Lovers Lane (1988) — arrive on September 25, marking the first time each has been pressed individually in decades.

Remastered and largely out of print since their initial era, the records resurfaced in 2019 as part of the G Stands for Go-Betweens Volume 2 box set, but never as separate vinyl editions. That left a gap for listeners who wanted to own the band’s sharpest songwriting without committing to a full retrospective package. The new reissues fill it, adding CD formats as well.

A fourth title, the live album Fountains of Youth (Live at the Town and Country Club), recorded in 1987 and only officially released in 2020, will also see its first physical editions on vinyl and CD. The setlist leans heavily on material from Tallulah and earlier, capturing the group’s dual-guitar jangle and dry romanticism at full stage intensity.

These albums chart The Go-Betweens’ evolution from insular indie fixture to an act brushing mainstream pop structures without losing their narrative precision. 16 Lovers Lane’s “Streets of Your Town” remains the closest they came to a hit, but the reissues argue for the depth around it — songs that never overplayed their hand and built a quiet, lasting influence.
