The latest preview from Day And Night sits on the album’s Night side, with a Paris-shot video starring Gigi Goode.
Carly Rae Jepsen is one month out from Day And Night, the double album due September 18 on Interscope. The new single “Motivation” arrives after “On Wires,” “After All,” and “Don’t Leave Me On The Dance Floor,” and it comes from the record’s Night half. Co-written with Cole MGN and co-produced by Kyle Shearer, the song moves as a bright and euphoric club-pop track with a steady strut. It is not the Kelly Rowland and Lil Wayne song of the same name.
Jepsen traces the rhythm to a fall visit home. “The crunch of the leaves under my feet started creating this rhythm,” she said. “I was thinking about my family and how passionate we all are, how we have such high expectations of each other.” She describes “Motivation” as a family anthem that makes peace with complicated parts and can extend to chosen families.
The video, directed by Caio Viera in Paris, stars Gigi Goode. It closes with a quick glimpse of Jepsen’s newborn. Across the rollout, Jepsen has been releasing a number of advance tracks, but with 24 songs on the album, the early singles still leave the full record with room to land.
