Miley Cyrus is shedding her surname. A trailer for her tenth album, Bass Persuades, carries only the title “Miley,” and the shift now runs across her social media. Signed without a last name, a post describing the album’s title offered no further explanation: “That’s what the title means to me.”
Her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, addressed the rebrand directly. In an Instagram post, he wrote that he always called his daughter just Miley, and connected the move to his own early billing as “Cyrus” before “Achy Breaky Heart.” He cited Dolly Parton, Cher, Elvis,
