Patrick Higgins and Nicolas Jaar Form AEAEA, Announce Debut Album ‘Mist’

Patrick Higgins and Nicolas Jaar have formalized their collaborative work as AEAEA. The pair’s debut album, Mist, arrives November 20 on Jaar’s Other People imprint.

Jaar’s solo output and work with Darkside have long traded in slow-building electronic textures, while Higgins operates in New York’s experimental composition scene and has produced for a range of indie rock records. The two began making music together in 2019, when Higgins served as artist and curator at Le Guess Who? festival, and spent three years recording Mist between Berlin and Higgins’ studio in Upstate New York.

The record’s first single, “Sunrise On Lethe,” is a 13-minute instrumental that unfolds with a hazy, improvisational feel. Cellist Judith Hamann joins the duo to fill out the arrangements. The tracklist runs eight pieces, from opener “Khôra” through “Respire,” “Desert Solitaire,” “Lost Lands,” “Asunder,” “Threnody,” and the closer “Coda.”

AEAEA’s first US live performance is set for September 25 at Brooklyn’s 314 Scholes, part of an Other People label night.
