Ne-Yo Faces Lawsuit Over Cancelled Colombo Concert and $284,000 Advance

Ne-Yo is facing legal action from Sri Lankan promoter Brown Boy Presents over a cancelled Colombo concert and a disputed $284,000 advance payment.

According to Billboard, the promoter filed suit on 4th September against the R&B singer, his company Compound Touring, and booking agency Independent Artist Group. The contract called for Ne-Yo to perform at Sugathadasa Stadium on 28th December for a $325,000 fee, with potential ticket-sale bonuses. Ne-Yo cancelled in early December, and the show never took place.

Ne-Yo’s team has said Brown Boy breached the agreement by paying only part of the advance and failing to arrange travel and accommodation, leading them to retain the payment as damages. Brown Boy disputes that account, alleging Ne-Yo’s representatives “materially hindered and frustrated” its work, including by requesting flights for 30 people that would have pushed travel costs toward $93,000. The promoter also cites Cyclone Ditwah and late-November economic disruption as factors affecting ticket sales and operations.

The promoter is seeking the return of the advance plus costs tied to ticket refunds, sponsor losses, venue expenses, and production costs. A spokesperson for Ne-Yo called the claims “categorically fraudulent and misleading,” saying Brown Boy failed to pay in full or cover round-trip travel for his team despite multiple opportunities to resolve the alleged breaches. Independent Artist Group declined to comment.
