Selena Gomez Says Vaping Changed Her Voice

Selena Gomez has told followers that vaping nicotine altered her voice, calling the habit “not worth it” and saying she has stopped.

Selena Gomez has said that vaping nicotine changed her voice. In an Instagram post, the singer described the habit bluntly: “I vaped nicotine a lot,” she said, adding that nicotine is “so hard to quit” and that vaping is “just not worth it.” She also said she has stopped and hopes to keep it that way.

The admission matters because a singer’s voice is not an abstract accessory. It is the working instrument. Gomez did not frame the comment as a medical finding, but she connected the habit directly to how she sounds. She also addressed listeners who dislike the change: “If you guys don’t like listening to my voice, that’s totally understandable,” she said.

Gomez has lupus, a chronic autoimmune condition. In an earlier Instagram Q&A, she said her throat sometimes swells, which makes clean attribution difficult. Vocal changes also arrive with age. Still, her account puts vaping into a conversation that has recently included another singer: Lola Young said on Instagram that her lungs felt “battery powered” and that breathing had become hard work.

For Gomez, the more concrete news is the stop line: she says she has quit, and she describes it as difficult. That is less a public health campaign than a working artist explaining a change in the body she performs with.
