Judas Priest Confirms 50th Anniversary Edition of ‘Sad Wings of Destiny’, New Album in Progress

The metal pioneers have announced a definitive reissue of their landmark 1976 album and confirmed work on a follow-up to 2024’s ‘Invincible Shield’.

Judas Priest has officially announced a 50th anniversary reissue of their seminal 1976 album “Sad Wings of Destiny”. This new edition, slated for release later in 2025, marks the first time the band has been directly involved in the reissue process for this foundational record.

The album, which helped define the sonic template of heavy metal with tracks like “Victim of Changes” and “The Ripper”, will be remastered from the original tapes. The band’s direct oversight promises a definitive version of the work that cemented their early sound.

Alongside this archival project, Judas Priest confirmed they have begun writing and recording a new studio album. This follows closely on the heels of their 2024 release “Invincible Shield”, indicating a period of sustained creative output for the veteran group.

The dual announcement ties the band’s influential past to its active present, framing their 50th anniversary not as a purely retrospective event but as a milestone within a continuing career.
