The London four-piece pairs urgent pop with introspection on their latest release, ahead of a Soho party on June 27.
London four-piece myohmy have built their reputation the old-fashioned way: through live shows that leave people talking, and a Discord server where 600 members dissect every move. That community focus now gets a fresh focal point with ‘berlin’ / ‘broken’, a double single that splits their sound into two distinct impulses.
‘berlin’ works by momentum. It grabs you from the first beat, a rush of guitar and rhythm driving a narrative about flight and reinvention. The band, who count Tycho Jones, Amelia Lawn, Jagun (formerly of Whitelands) and Sian Lynch (formerly of Picture Parlour) among their ranks, say the song uses the city as a metaphor for walking away from one life and into another. That first step, they note, feels exposing and exhilarating at the same time.
Flip the record and ‘broken’ works from a quieter but no less volatile place. It follows two people locked into each other’s damage, aware the chaos keeps them bound. The song moves carefully, a slow burn that mirrors the entanglement it describes. Together, the two tracks give a more complete picture of what myohmy do well: big hooks that don’t paper over emotional mess.
The band plays a party at Coven in Soho on June 27 for anyone who wants to see how these songs hit a room. If the Discord crowd is any hint, there won’t be much standing still.
