A rare typewritten draft of Bob Dylan’s “I’m Not There,” featuring handwritten amendments, will be sold at Omega Auctions on April 21.
A physical artifact from one of Bob Dylan’s most elusive songs is entering the market. Omega Auctions will sell the original typewritten working lyrics for “I’m Not There” on April 21.
The document is a single lined page, measuring roughly 21 by 18 centimeters, bearing typed words and several handwritten amendments. The song was written in 1956 and recorded during the famed Basement Tapes sessions around 1967, though it remained officially unreleased for decades. Its lyrical obscurity and haunting quality have cemented its mythic status among collectors and scholars.
The lot is part of an Audio Equipment and Music Memorabilia sale, with an estimated value of up to £40,000. Its reappearance after sixty years offers a tangible, if expensive, connection to a pivotal and shrouded period in Dylan’s creative process.
