A Los Angeles judge has rejected Smokey Robinson’s attempt to dismiss labor and harassment claims from two accusers in an ongoing lawsuit.
A Los Angeles County judge has denied Smokey Robinson’s motion to dismiss sexual harassment and labor claims from two of his five accusers. The ruling allows the claims from the women, identified as Jane Doe 2 and Jane Doe 5, to proceed as part of the wider lawsuit.
Robinson’s legal team had argued the claims were too old to pursue, as the women stopped working for him in 2020 and 2011 respectively. The judge found that the legal revival window for sexual battery claims also applied to their separate allegations of a hostile work environment and unpaid wages.
The lawsuit, initially filed in May 2024, involves five anonymous accusers. Claims from the three other Jane Does, who stopped working for Robinson in 2024, were already within the standard statute of limitations. This ruling represents a procedural setback for the Motown legend in the ongoing case.
