Ticketmaster says it caught scalpers using fake identities to buy tickets for Harry Styles’ Madison Square Garden residency. The cancelled tickets will go back on sale at face value.
Ticketmaster has cancelled thousands of tickets bought by scalpers for Harry Styles’ upcoming Madison Square Garden residency. The company says it identified the fraudulent purchases and will release them to fans at the original price.
In a statement posted to Instagram, Ticketmaster President Saumil Mehta confirmed that scalpers used “multiple accounts and fake identities” to buy tickets and resell them for profit. None of the cancelled tickets had been transferred to fans, according to the company.
Fans who bought tickets during the official on-sale period will not be affected. Neither will those who purchased tickets for Styles’ shows in other cities. The cancellations only target accounts flagged as scalpers.
Ticketmaster says it’s working with Styles’ team to put the reclaimed tickets back on sale. The move comes after a notoriously difficult on-sale for the 30-date residency, which left many legitimate fans empty-handed while resale prices soared. Whether this actually puts tickets in the hands of fans remains to be seen, but it’s a rare admission from a company that usually stays quiet about its anti-scalping efforts.
