Torture Methods Returns with New Single “Ripper, Reaper”

In May, New York musician Grant Chapman released a self-titled debut under the name Torture Methods. It arrived as a glitch-ridden, gothic set—unsettling but framed with a playful surrealism. Chapman, who also plays percussion for Chris Taylor’s Body Meat, now returns with “Ripper, Reaper,” a new single out Friday, September 18.

The track builds a thick, seductive atmosphere from chopped vocal clips and demonic screams. They spiral through a jungle-influenced rhythm, while a flowery, almost Mozartian melody surfaces against the chaos. The production also carries a low, womping presence and echoes that suggest chains dragging through the mix.

The Bandcamp description leans into body horror: “Over the festering belly buzzed the flies, out of it crawled the worms of decay, in squadrons dark and sluggish stream seething along the ragged flesh.” It’s a fitting companion to a song that moves between the elegant and the grotesque.
