Trump Proposes Himself as Headliner After Artists Exit July 4 Mall Event

The Great American State Fair, a Fourth of July concert on Washington D.C.’s National Mall, has lost multiple performers who said they were told the event was nonpartisan. Donald Trump now says he may hold a rally at the same time and location instead.

The Freedom 250 concert, planned for July 4 on the National Mall, began unraveling almost as soon as its lineup was announced on May 27. The initial bill included Martina McBride, Flo Rida, Vanilla Ice, Young MC, C+C Music Factory, Milli Vanilli, the Commodores, and Bret Michaels. Within days, several acts withdrew, each pointing to what they described as a misrepresentation of the event’s political ties.

Young MC told VIBE on Thursday he had not been informed the gathering was backed by Trump allies. “I had no clue it was considered a ‘Trump-backed’ event,” he said. Morris Day and the Time, who were rumored to be involved, issued a blunt denial on Instagram the same evening. By Saturday, five of the originally listed artists had pulled out, according to Rolling Stone.

Donald Trump responded on Truth Social that afternoon. He wrote that performers were getting “the yips” and floated the idea of stepping in himself. “I am thinking about bringing the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World,” the post read, adding that a rally would replace the concert at the same time and location. He described the potential event as “a Wild and Beautiful Celebration of America” open only to “Great Patriots.”

The Great American State Fair was organized by Keith Krach, a Trump appointee, through Freedom 250, a group that describes itself as a nonpartisan public-private partnership. The rapid exodus of artists, however, exposed a hard line between the concert’s stated mission and its political scaffolding. No rescheduled date or revised lineup has been announced.
