The duet, cut at Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound in Nashville, trades verses over piano and strings before the two voices meet. It is the latest in a run of collaborations that has moved Bryan well beyond country’s center.
“Lies,” the Lana Del Rey duet Zach Bryan has been sitting on for weeks, is out now on his new EP, cut at Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound in Nashville and produced by Bryan with Jamie McLaughlin and Eddie Spear. The arrangement stays spare: piano, strings, Bryan on the opening verse, Del Rey taking a later one, the two harmonizing at the close. Her laugh surfaces faintly in the background before she steps forward.
Del Rey signalled the release on Instagram last month. “Whale, we finally got our song done,” she wrote. “And that’s no lie.”
The pairing fits a pattern. Bryan has spent recent years placing himself beside artists outside his own lane, from Bruce Springsteen to Kacey Musgraves. The Musgraves duet, 2023’s “I Remember Everything,” earned two Grammy nominations and gave both artists their first Billboard Hot 100 Number One. The new EP also carries “Plainsman” with Turnpike Troubadours, and follows the 25-track With Heaven on Top from earlier this year.
For Del Rey, the track lands mid-wait. Stove, the follow-up to 2023’s Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, was pushed back from its May 2025 date; she has described it as two records arriving together, one drawn from growth and joy, the other from doubt and the business of starting over. Bryan, meanwhile, has a 23-date stadium tour booked for next year across North America and Australia, with John Fogerty and Emma Ogier among the openers.
