Musician Garrett Dutton says his cryptocurrency savings were drained after downloading a malicious app while setting up a new computer.
Garrett Dutton, the artist known as G. Love, has publicly stated he lost his entire bitcoin savings in an apparent scam. The incident occurred over the weekend when he was setting up a new computer.
Dutton explained on social media that he accidentally downloaded a malicious application posing as a legitimate crypto wallet from the Apple App Store while transferring his Ledger wallet. He says the action drained 5.9 bitcoin, an amount he had accumulated over nearly a decade and valued at approximately $443,000 at the time.
In his posts, Dutton called it his retirement fund and addressed skeptics directly. The episode highlights the persistent security risks within the cryptocurrency space, even for established figures. It also points to the financial vulnerability artists can face outside traditional industry structures.
