Springsteen joined the Doors drummer and Steve Van Zandt’s band for a rendition of “Light My Fire” at the archival center’s annual event.
The Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center hosted its American Music Honors at Monmouth University this past Saturday. The 2026 ceremony recognized the Doors, placing the band’s legacy in direct contact with one of its noted fans.
During the event, Bruce Springsteen took the stage with Doors drummer John Densmore and Steve Van Zandt’s Disciples of Soul house band. They performed a version of the Doors’ 1967 hit “Light My Fire.”
In his remarks, Densmore recalled the long connection, noting that the Doors had played in Asbury Park nearly sixty years ago with a young Springsteen in attendance. He linked that early exposure to Springsteen’s enduring relationship with his wife, Patti Scialfa.
The performance underscores the archival center’s role in drawing connective lines through American music history, moving beyond mere tribute into active, cross-generational collaboration.
