Nashville’s Australian Artist Community Keeps Expanding

As Australia becomes the second-largest overseas market for Nashville, a new wave of musicians relocates to the city with O-1 visas and a focus on craft.

Australia now sends more tourists and temporary residents to Nashville than any country except the United Kingdom. Musicians account for a visible share of that movement. Over the past two decades, a steady flow of Australian artists has settled in Music City, adding new layers to an existing network of expatriates that began with a few notable breakouts.

Keith Urban left Queensland for Nashville in the early 1990s and built a Grammy-winning career. Tommy Emmanuel found a mentor in Chet Atkins and later became one of the world’s most respected guitarists. Morgan Evans reached platinum
