Bloc Party Announce Trevor Horn-Produced Album ‘Anatomy of a Brief Romance’

The four-track project chronicles the end of a decade-long relationship with a sharp pop producer at the helm.

Bloc Party’s next album arrives shaped by two distinct forces: the dissolution of Kele Okereke’s long-term relationship and the studio presence of Trevor Horn. Anatomy of a Brief Romance is a short, four-track record, its title reflecting the personal subject matter Okereke brought to the writing sessions. He began the work in the aftermath of a breakup that spanned more than ten years, and every lyric, he says in press materials, comes directly from lived experience. “I had to tell the story, from start to finish.”

The band released “Coming on Strong” as the first single, a track that hints at the album’s compact but pointed emotional arc. Horn, known for sculpting pop records for Seal, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and Yes, brings an unexpected production signature to a group best known for the angular post-punk of Silent Alarm.
