Criminal Case Against Lindsey Buckingham’s Alleged Stalker Suspended for Competency Exam

A Los Angeles judge has halted proceedings against Michelle Dick, who faces six felony charges related to an alleged years-long harassment campaign against the Fleetwood Mac guitarist, pending a mental health evaluation.

The criminal case against a woman accused of stalking and assaulting Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham has been suspended by a Los Angeles judge, who ordered a clinical psychologist to assess her mental competency. Michelle Dick, 55, was charged in April with six felonies and one misdemeanor following a series of alleged incidents that prosecutors say stretched from October 2021 into this spring.

During a Tuesday hearing, Dick’s public defender requested that Dr. Karine Shakib-Beltran examine Dick in custody and review her private medical history to determine whether she understands the charges and can assist in her defense. Judge Robert S. Harrison of the county’s mental health court granted the request, with a follow-up hearing set for August 6.

The case involves claims that Dick repeatedly violated a restraining order, struck Buckingham with a motor vehicle on March 19, vandalized his Mercedes-Benz with graffiti, and, on March 25, allegedly tracked him to a Santa Monica location and threw an unidentified substance at him before fleeing. Buckingham was not injured. She was arrested in Indiana weeks later and pleaded not guilty in May.

Court filings also detail a “swatting” incident from November 2024, when Dick allegedly called 911 and falsely reported gunshots and a suicidal person at Buckingham’s Brentwood home, prompting a large police response. Buckingham, 76, wrote in a statement that he was briefly handcuffed while officers searched the house. The harassment is alleged to have started with persistent phone calls and threats in 2021.
