The long-simmering collaboration arrives named after the 2017 ransomware attack, linking two artists whose creative paths have been quietly converging.
The collaboration between Ninajirachi and Porter Robinson has an immediate logic to it—both share a taste for hyper-digital textures and songwriting that cuts through hard synth layers. The new single “WannaCry” lands as that link becomes concrete, a track titled after the global cyberattack that scrambled systems in 2017.
The connection isn’t abstract. Robinson’s 2024 album Smile! 😀 leaned into pop maximalism, while Ninajirachi’s debut full-length I Love My Computer mapped out a similarly wired, emotionally direct sound. The pairing has been a long time coming: according to press materials, Ninajirachi’s first concert as a teenager was a Porter Robinson show at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre.
Details on the single remain slim, but the title alone suggests a thematic friction between digital panic and coded intimacy—a space both artists know well. Ninajirachi is set to play a handful of North American headline dates beginning in September, bringing a packed year to a close with shows that will likely test how these new studio ideas translate to the stage.
