Neil Perry Details His Split From The Band Perry, Blames Sister Kimberly

The guitarist says he was terminated in 2024 after refusing a lineup change that brought in his sister’s husband, and has launched a new project called WOLVESofJUNE.

Neil Perry has made his side of The Band Perry’s 2024 breakup public. The guitarist and vocalist, who performed with siblings Kimberly and Reid for nearly two decades, says Kimberly pushed him out after he objected to her husband Johnny Costello joining the lineup.

In a series of social media posts this week, Perry described a breakdown that began in June 2024. He claims Kimberly initially wanted to bring the band out of hiatus without Reid, then proposed replacing him with Costello. Perry says he refused, and weeks later he was terminated. “I never expected that my decision not to participate under those circumstances would also mean losing my financial interest and access to the band’s platforms, resources, and audience,” he wrote.

The Band Perry went on hiatus in 2023. In July 2025, the group returned as a trio: Kimberly, Reid, and Costello. Reid left later that year to focus on artist management, leaving his sister and her husband as the active members.

Perry added that he had asked Kimberly not to misrepresent his support for the current version of the band. He has since launched a new project, WOLVESofJUNE. The dispute remains a private family matter playing out in public statements.
