Charlotte MacInnes Releases Single While Suing Rebel Wilson

The actress at the center of a defamation case against Rebel Wilson has put out a new song ahead of her debut album.

Charlotte MacInnes, the lead actress in Rebel Wilson’s directorial debut The Deb, released her single “Celestial” on Thursday. The track arrives ahead of her debut album Highwater, due June 5 via Atlantic Records. It also arrives while she is suing Wilson for defamation in Australia.

MacInnes testified this week in a Sydney courtroom about a 2023 incident at Bondi Beach that triggered multiple lawsuits involving Wilson. The legal case has drawn attention to the film’s production and the fallout between the two women. MacInnes has not commented directly on the case in connection to her music.

In a statement, MacInnes described the album as a long-gestating project. “I’ve been living with this new music for a while now and working with the most incredible people to bring it to life,” she said. “I am in love with the magical yet honest world we’re building. The whole process was a very empowering catharsis, and I hope that feeling extends out to anyone that hears it.”

The single leans into synth-infused pop, a shift from MacInnes’ earlier work. Whether the legal drama helps or hinders the album’s reception is unclear, but the timing is hard to ignore.
