The New England trio preview their forthcoming album Modernism with a track that pairs vibraphones and fuzz bass with a backwards guitar solo.
Perennial have shared a third single from their upcoming album Modernism, and “Ready! Steady! Go!” continues the New England trio’s sharp turn toward pop. Earlier cuts “What’s New On The Beat Scene” and the title track set the stage, but the new song pushes further into both hooks and haze.
“It’s probably our most POP song and our most psychedelic too,” says Chad Jewett. The band had mid/late-60s Motown in mind, and that’s clear from the arrangement: vibraphones, electric organ, and a fuzz bass groove keep the energy brisk before the track collapses into a backwards guitar solo and wah-wah pedal accents. The blend feels deliberate—a tight pop structure that slowly unravels.
Modernism arrives September 18 via Ernest Jenning Record Co.
