Sabrina Carpenter Granted Five-Year Restraining Order After Stalker’s Court Testimony

A Los Angeles judge ordered William Applegate to stay away from the pop singer for five years, following his testimony that he had to contact her for a secret military mission to save the world.

A Los Angeles judge granted Sabrina Carpenter a five-year restraining order on Wednesday against a man who testified in court that he and the singer were part of a classified government program tied to “the second coming of Christ.” William Applegate, speaking in a deep monotone, told the court that his mission required him to contact Carpenter to save the world. “Carpenter and I being together as soon as possible is essential,” he said. “I’m the center. I’m key to this entire process.”

Carpenter appeared remotely but did not testify. Her lawyer, Blair Berk, argued that Applegate had traveled to the singer’s private homes on more than a dozen occasions. On May 23, he broke into a neighbor’s property, climbed a fence, and tried to open Carpenter’s front door while she was inside. The incident prompted an emergency temporary restraining order, which was extended into the five-year order on Wednesday.

Los Angeles County Judge David I. Wasserman ordered Applegate to stay at least 100 yards from Carpenter, her homes, vehicles, and workplaces until 2031, and barred him from owning firearms or contacting her. Addressing Applegate directly, the judge said: “I understand it’s your belief that in order to save the world, you and [Carpenter] need to be together. … This court has issued its order. And I expect you to obey the order, not what you think the military commands of you.”

In a declaration obtained by Rolling Stone, Carpenter wrote that she had never met Applegate and called his attempt to enter her home “one of the most disturbing violations of personal safety and privacy I have ever experienced.” She said his pattern of stalking had caused her severe emotional distress and fear of what he might do if not restrained.
