The Swedish pop writer’s new record, due September 18, confronts desire and memory without resolution.
Tove Lo has announced her sixth album, ‘ESTRUS’, set for release on September 18 via Pretty Swede Records / Virgin Music Group. The title borrows the biological term for a female mammal in heat, a fitting frame for a record she describes as driven by instinct and contradiction. The lead single, ‘I’m your girl right?’, arrived with an official video, pulsing with the directness that marks the project.
The album was recorded across Los Angeles, Stockholm, and a small Swedish fishing village where Lo spent childhood holidays. Returning there prompted a reckoning with past selves, a theme that threads through the tracklist. “It’s my mind and my body wanting different things, wanting everything,” she said in a statement. “There’s no good advice on this album… just a lot of feelings, no solutions.” Song titles like ‘des fleurs x stromae’, ‘die for my art with a lonely heart’, and ‘roomie’ point to a writer comfortable moving between sharp pop syllables and looser, more personal fragments.
‘ESTRUS’ follows 2022’s ‘Dirt Femme’, which reaffirmed Lo’s ability to write hits for herself and others. Here the production feels grittier, less concerned with polish. The track ‘a lot of feelings, no solutions’ functions as a kind of thesis statement, its title mirroring her own description of the album’s emotional landscape. It’s the work of an artist who has earned the space to work without external pressure.
Lo also announced a 2026 tour supporting the album, with dates across North America, the UK, and Europe. The shows, her largest to date, include stops at Nashville’s Pinnacle, Brooklyn’s Under The K Bridge, London’s O2 Academy Brixton, and Stockholm’s Avicii Arena. Mallrat, Rose Gray, and Cobrah will provide support on select legs. Tickets go on sale May 20 at 10 a.m. local time.
