Kiwi Jr. Announce New Album ‘Blowin’ Up’ with Guests from Protomartyr, Alvvays, and More

The Toronto band’s third LP arrives August 14 via K Records, Perennial, and Kiwi Club, recorded in Detroit with producer Graham Walsh and a cast of fellow travelers.

Toronto’s Kiwi Jr. will release their third album, Blowin’ Up, on August 14 through K Records, Perennial, and their own Kiwi Club. The ten-track LP follows 2022’s Chopper and last year’s single “Hard Drive, Ontario,” both of which appear on the new record.

Recorded in Detroit with Holy Fuck’s Graham Walsh producing, the album leans heavily on the city’s underground. Protomartyr’s Joe Casey and Greg Ahee, Stef Chura, and Fred Thomas all contribute, and Thomas helped mix the record. Alvvays’ Kerri Maclellan and En Attendant Ana’s Margaux Bouchaudon also make appearances, stretching the album’s collaborative scope beyond any single scene. The title track is out today alongside a Ben Rayner-directed video; it plays like a taut, nervy anthem, guitar lines darting around a steady beat.

Kiwi Jr. have a string of tour dates booked from June through November, starting in St. John’s and eventually crossing into Europe. The full tracklist and itinerary can be found below the video.
