Courtney Love Confirms New Album Is Done and Opens Up About 2019 Health Scare

The musician says her record is finished and she’s healthy again, but not before recounting the hospital stays that nearly ended her.

Courtney Love’s next record has been the subject of speculation for years, but the musician has now confirmed it exists in finished form. In a video posted to Instagram, Love said the album is “done” and has “kind of been done,” describing it as a strong record she invested heavily in. The update arrived alongside a rare disclosure about a 2019 health crisis that nearly ended her life. Love said she was in and out of hospitals after moving from Los Angeles to London, losing all her hair and dropping to around 100 pounds. “I almost died,” she said. “They told me I was going to die. I didn’t believe them.”

That refusal to accept external verdicts became the thread of her message. She connected the experience to childhood memories of being told “red was blue” and learning to distrust her own perception. “I never really lost my ability to see that fucking red was red,” she added. “Somehow I got better. I’m healthy, which is amazing.”

Love also addressed the commercial failure of Hole’s 2010 album Nobody’s Daughter, recalling an 11 a.m. slot at Pizza Hut Park while Limp Bizkit and 30 Seconds to Mars headlined. “Spectacularly humbling,” she called it. The new album, she said, includes work with Billie Joe Armstrong and Michael Stipe, and she intends to tour. No release date was given.
