Artist Spotlight: Sotto James and the Ordinary Rooms That Still Hold the Feeling

Starting from the new single, the Athens songwriter’s recent run and earlier work keep returning to ordinary rooms where the unresolved feeling is allowed to stay.

Are We Running Out Of Time? is the latest room. Released on 9 October 2026 and written, performed and produced by Sotiris Georgakopoulos, mixed by Dimitris Kalamaras at Dudu Loft and mastered by Yiannis Christodoulatos at Sweetspot, the single was shaped with his father in mind. It does not mark a single loss. It marks the quieter recognition that a relationship once treated as permanent is already bound by time. The arrangement opens thin, gathers, withdraws, and returns. The question in the title is never answered. The sound itself appears to run out, leaving the window open. That choice is not new for Sotto James. It is the method that becomes clearer once the earlier singles are placed beside it.

Talisman, out in May 2026, was recorded in a tiny downtown Athens studio with Dimitris Fragkoulis of Mavile. Acoustic and electric guitars, a small electric piano and harmonica keep the surface warm and propulsive while the lyric carries exhaustion and the repeated concession “You can have anything, anything you want.” The brighter temperature and the quieter collapse occupy the same space. Cold Fingers, released in March 2026, was written in the hours before a long journey from Greece to Japan. The cold fingers on a hand in the car stay fixed. Everything else gathers around that single point. Both tracks treat an ordinary interior as the place where the feeling is allowed to remain unresolved. The car, the studio, the window. The scale stays close.

The run that leads into those singles began in 2025. Some Kind Of Light arrived in December, again written, performed and produced by Georgakopoulos, with drums and mix by Dimitris Kalamaras at Dudu Loft and mastering by Yiannis Christodoulatos at Sweetspot. The song treats light as something that arrives and fades rather than as a permanent state. Ornamental, released in October with a video directed and edited by Dimitris Koufopoulos, watches a face that has grown ornamental, frozen, hard to look at, and asks what remains when the person stays just long enough to keep everyone hanging on. Green (Live, at Home), out earlier that year, keeps the voice close and the arrangement spare, a home recording that already prefers the room that is already there. Cavalry, a shorter collaboration released in January 2026, sits slightly to the side of the main line while still carrying the same preference for held tension over release.

Across the recent singles the collaborators stay close to home. Dudu Loft and the small Athens rooms recur. The production keeps the voice in a warm, slightly frayed register that can stay intimate or open without theatrical break. The objects change. A car. A window. A talisman. A light that fades. The method stays the same. The work is still building toward a longer form. For now the singles themselves form a clear sequence, each one returning to an ordinary space and asking what can still be held while the larger fact is already in the room.
